Since I have already touched upon the management of the gallery—specifically our collaboration with artists—I must note that despite the general similarity in how gallerists operate, clear differences certainly exist. Of course, no owner will ever reveal all their secrets. However, since “Navilart” is only in its first year, and given my six years of experience, a connection with Svetla formed naturally and, I am certain, will prove mutually beneficial. Svetla Tukhchieva’s gallery is backed by a corporate firm, which is a fundamentally important factor. The company takes a purely business-minded approach to the gallery’s activities, understanding that it serves primarily as publicity for the enterprise and creates a distinctive corporate image. Hence, they show exceptional attention and care toward "their gallery," providing robust funding.
How vital these live connections between artists from different countries are today, at the close of the century and on the eve of the third millennium, when the "link between times" is under threat of breaking. Creativity cannot, and has no right to, isolate itself; otherwise, it inevitably weakens and degenerates. No reproductions or lavishly published catalogs can convey the energy of a canvas or the unique spirit of its author. Only live interaction can bridge the space that separates us.
The Maritime Gallery of Odesa and the Navilart Gallery of Varna have signed a cooperation agreement. While it sounds rather formal on paper, in reality, it means we aim to establish a continuous exchange of exhibitions. We will also attempt to organize an international open-air art residency (plein air) at the "Kamchiya" tourist complex near Varna. Artists will come here to live, work, and rest at the expense of the hosting party. Instead of payment, they will gift one or two of their works to the hosts.
